Marvel Studios should take their time with the X-Men and keep them separate

Marvel Studios should take their time with the X-Men and keep them close but separate.
Comic book and movie fans alike are excited about the X-Men franchise joining Marvel Studios. There are a plethora of X-Men tales that can finally be told in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU is known for doing their projects at a pace that makes it easier to tell stories properly. It looks like this will be no different from with the X-Men. Recently, Kevin Feige stated that it will be years before we get an X-Men project.
Then, there is the Hollywood Reporter’s report on the eventual and inevitable X-Men usage in the MCU:
"“Unless Kevin Feige has a completed script waiting in his desk drawer, the newly arriving heroes from the Disney-Fox merger are unlikely to hit screens until at least 2021, if not later.” It may seem like a long time, but it will be worth the wait."
One of the things that’s plagued the X-Men franchise is trying to do too much at once. X-Men: The Last Stand could have been a better product if the story would have been split into more movies. Instead, we received a disappointing Phoenix Force.
X-Men: Apocalypse also suffered from the lack of dialogue from the Horsemen like Olivia Munn and little reasoning for Apocalypse’s Horsemen joining him. Imagine if there had been more time to explore why Angel becomes Archangel.

There’s also The Wolverine. Logan never had the opportunity to learn martial arts or meet Ogun. Those are crucial parts of the character’s lore and what we have to look forward to.
Phases of terrific movies that divulge into why everything is happening instead of brief storytelling. Keeping the characters separate, but acknowledging they exist in the same universe.
One of the cool things about the Marvel Netflix shows was that they were separated from the rest of the MCU, but also recognized that they were part of it as well. In the comics, this was also true for the mutants. The X-Men didn’t fight the Avenger villains often and vice versa. Sure, every so often Magneto and the Avengers would meet and Dr. Doom became a villain to everyone, but it wasn’t often. This should be the case for a while. Eventually, it would be nice to see Beast, Wolverine, and Rogue be part of the Avengers. But they should be eased in.
Letting the X-Men establish who they are in this new world means that the characters have a chance to grow on their own. With the new Avengers phase being lead by the powerful Captain Marvel, adding new variables may hinder her growth. No one wants that.
Moviegoers have seen what can happen if the X-Men aren’t given the respect they deserve, with botched movies and rushed projects solo characters who may never get their time in the limelight (looking at you Gambit). It’s time for a change and Marvel Studios are the perfect place for both the Avenger and X-Men projects to be done right.
