Could Marvel actually be teasing the return of Joe Fixit in ‘Immortal Hulk’?
Immortal Hulk No.16 appears to have teased the return of a major personality in Hulk comics. Spoilers lie ahead.
Over the years, there have been many incarnations of the Hulk. One of the prime aspects of his personality is the gray-skinned version known as Joe Fixit. After his first appearance in The Incredible Hulk No. 1 back in 1962, the Gray Hulk returned in The Incredible Hulk No. 324, but it was not until issue No. 347, during the late ’80s, that he was known as Mr. Fixit.
However, Dr. Bruce Banner is more commonly known as the green “Savage Hulk’” In recent years, Banner has maintained some level of control over his monstrous side, and has even had green-skinned transformations during which he has an average intelligence, even when enraged. His most recent personality is seen in the latest series, Immortal Hulk, by Al Ewing.

This current personality of the Green Goliath, also known as the “Devil Hulk,” is a manifestation of Banner in search of a father figure. This iteration is a vengeful, protective, devious and more articulate version of the Hulk influenced by the entity, the “One Below All.” The current incarnation of the character now only manifests during the night and is a direct response to his deaths and rebirths in the past.
As revealed in Immortal Hulk No.16, covered by Comicbook.com, during a mission with Doc Samson to uncover what happened to their best friend Rick Jones, Shadow Base sent their assassin, Bushwacker, to (excuse the pun) whack the green monster. How, you ask? Well, Devil Hulk has been active, even after Banner has been trying to keep a low profile, and as expected, people talk.
It seems Banner’s enemies are privy to his limited changes into his hulking alter ego during sunset of late. Devil Hulk reverted to Banner, of course after a trap, and by the end of the issue and from the twinkle of gray in his eyes, it appears that ol’ Joe has begun to manifest. To conclude, my theory is Devil Hulk has a lot bigger plans for Banner and the rest of the outside world and greater multiverse that could be tied with the One Below All.
