Marvel is giving Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, a solo series, and it’s long overdue.

The Fantastic Four are known as Marvel’s first family They’ve been together since 1961, and have been one of the elite teams in the Marvel Universe. Unlike the Avengers and the X-Men, they’ve saved other realities, dimensions, and galaxies almost as many times as the other premier teams have saved the world or their cities. They even defeated Dr. Doom on multiple occasions, something other teams can’t even dream of. Reed Richards may be the brains, Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm are the muscle and comic relief, but they aren’t the most powerful people on the team. That title goes to none other than Sue Richards, the Invisible Woman. Now over 50 years later, Sue Storm is doing something new. This July, the Invisible Woman will have her first ongoing series:

Writer Mark Waid (Daredevil) and artist Mattia De Iulis (Jessica Jones) will combine to tackle the Invisible Woman’s first solo series. This report came from Marvel.com. It was reported that she was working for S.H.I.E.L.D. shortly after she got her powers and her former partner is in trouble. We don’t know who this partner is or what kind of danger they’re in, but we’ll find out soon enough.

During this announcement on Marvel.com, Marvel’s Senior Vice President Tom Brevoort said:

More from Comics

"“Waid and De Iulis will be delving into what Sue Richards does—and even who she is—on her own time, apart from her famous family! It’s sure to surprise some—as will a few of the gestures-players who’ll be passing through the story!”"

It’s taken too long for Sue Richards to get her own solo series. The Thing and Johnny Storm have both had projects, but not Sue. It can’t be due to her lack of power or growth as a character. She used to be the weakest member of the Fantastic Four. She also went by Invisible Girl instead of Invisible Woman. Now there’s no question of why she’s respected. She has scared even the toughest characters. Heck, during Wolverine: Enemy of the State, Logan flat out said that she’s the only one on the team who makes him nervous.

Sue Richards went from being a hero who could only turn invisible to controlling her powers on an incredible scale. She’s choked out the Hulk, frozen an evil Wolverine in his tracks, and stopped a Thor clone from killing her friends with a giant lightning bolt. Mark Waid is a great writer who is going to take Sue Richards to new heights and it will be cool to see how artist Mattia De Iulis brings her to life. This has the potential to be one of the surprise comic book series of 2019. Look for her to use her powers in ways we haven’t seen before. Hopefully, this is only the beginning, as there are other characters that are long overdue for solo projects.
