The Boys trailer has dropped, and it’s as brutal and disgusting as fans were hoping.

When it was announced that Garth Ennis’ The Boys comic book was going to be a TV show, fans of the series were both excited and worried. The comic book series was amazing and original. The idea of what people with superpowers would be like if they were real was genius. They’d be just like everyone else. Some of them would use their powers for the good of mankind, others would be downright despicable. The comic showed the darker side of what they would be in our world. It was brutal, sexual, and uninhibited. The worry was that the series would be watered down if it was put on television. Good news, fans. Trailer number 2 showed that The Boys will be everything comic readers have hoped for:

The trailer starts off showing this Earth’s heroes being the wholesome beings the public assumed they were: waving, stopping crime, and looking like heroes. Right after that, they show the other side of things: a person at Ant-Man size in a speedo running and then diving in between a woman’s legs. The next clip shows a woman straddling a guy’s face. It looks like she climaxed right as she crushed his face as he muffled in what seemed like terror. If there’s still any doubt, the Homelander (he was the one with the red, white, and blue costume) kills that idea.

Homelander is supposed to be the world’s greatest hero. He’s Captain America and Superman rolled into one and we hear him say, “I can do whatever the **** I want,” with an evil face. The next clip shows him launching a normal human into the sky. And all of these are things that could have happened in the comic.

We also see what kind of person the leader of The Boys is. Karl Urban plays Billy Butcher, an Englishman with a justified vendetta against anyone with superpowers. He’s foul mouthed, tough, ruthless, but, above all, cunning. He outsmarts almost anyone he’s come in contact with. We get the sense that he will still hate supes (as he calls them) when he says he has to, “Spank the bastards” when he’s explaining what he does. Billy always has a colorful response to things, and this clip lets fans know this will not change in the show.

The Boys isn’t going to be for everyone. Some people are going to find it flat out disgusting. Despite what people may say, the trailer revealed that it will be a new take on what we’ve seen in superhero shows. It also helps that the creatives who are responsible for Supernatural and Preacher are involved. This will be a truly unique project, since it looks like they’re staying true to the essence of the comic.
