The Suicide Squad officially casts Ratcatcher, Polka-Dot Man actors
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad has cast two more actors, according to a report.
The Suicide Squad from James Gunn has some new casting announcements, according to Variety. This up and coming DCEU project is known for a lot of casting news and updates, including controversial ones. Will Smith dropping out, Jared Leto may not return and newcomers like Idris Elba and John Cena. Now even more newcomers are on board.
First off in casting The Suicide Squad is David Dastmalchian, who many comic-book movie fans know as Kurt, the Russian from Ant-Man. You may also know him as the stand-in for The Joker in The Dark Knight, whom Harvey Dent interrogates later. It appears that David Dastmalchian is playing lo and behold, Polka-Dot Man. You heard that right, Polka-Dot Man.
It is interesting that Dastmalchian keeps landing roles in these comic-book movies. If anything it appears this is something of a promotion, given the last two characters were written simply for their respective films. Polka-Dot Man dates back to Detective Comics No. 300 (1962). He is rather odd, silly, Silver Age villain. Who knows where this role is going.
Another casting announcement is that of Daniela Melchior, a Portuguese actress. You probably do not know of Melchior. All of her credits include television series in her home country of Portugal. The Suicide Squad is her first film and American film. The role she is playing is Ratcatcher. This character dates back to Detective Comics No. 585 (1988).
Ratcatcher was created by Alan Grant, John Wagner and the late Norm Breyfogle. Ratcatcher is hardly a well-known character. If anything, this character is less known than Polka-Dot Man. What is also intriguing is traditionally Ratcatcher is a male antagonist. Currently, no one is upset about this casting announcement of a woman for a male role.
With characters like Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher, as well as Peacekeeper, this casting for The Suicide Squad certainly does look intriguing. Not many fans ever expected these characters. What do you think of these roles and their perspective actors?
