John Cena appears to have landed a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.

The Suicide Squad is in active pre-production, and the cast has been growing over the past few weeks. While some of the original film’s stars will be returning, some new faces will also join the fray, and it looks like another one has been found.

Variety reports that John Cena is in talks to join James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Details on the role were not revealed, but Variety’s Justin Kroll believes he will play the character Peacemaker. Kroll also mentions that the role was originally meant for Gunn collaborater Dave Bautista, who had to pass on it due to scheduling. Neither Warner Bros. nor Cena’s reps have provided comment on the matter.

Cena will join a cast that includes fellow Suicide Squad newcomer Idris Elba, as well as returning cast members Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis. Gunn will direct the film from a screenplay that he penned.

More from DCEU

Already known for his superstar wrestler status, Cena has been making a name for himself in the world of film and television over the past few years. His two earliest roles were in the WWE-produced The Marine and 12 Rounds. Aside from the action genre, he’s also appeared in comedies like Trainwreck, Sisters and Blockers. The actor is also experienced when it comes to major film franchises, as he recently had a starring role in the Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee.

If Cena is playing Peacemaker, he’ll be one of the new characters James Gunn is adding to the franchise. The character is said to love peace so much that he’s willing to kill for it. Although he fits the criteria for the role, he could easily play the roles of King Shark or Polka-Dot Man, as well. So the role may not be completely set in stone.
