Malekith’s forces are winning the War of the Realms, and the Avengers can barely do anything to stop them. Their only hope is to find Thor and destroy Malekith’s Black Bifrost. Spoilers for War of the Realms no. 3 follow.

After their strategic repeat at the end of War of the Realms No. 2, the Avengers split into four teams to help bring about the end of the invasion of Earth. On one team is Lady Frigga, Blade, the Punisher, and She-Hulk attempting to bring down Malekith’s Black Bifrost. Team two consists of Steve Rogers, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and Wolverine trying to find Thor on Jotunheim. Team three has Heimdall, Jane Foster, and Daredevil protecting the Bifrost. And team four consists of those who are left to protect Earth from the rest of Malekith’s forces.

Pretty much the only team to, at the very least, succeed in their mission is Steve Roger’s team because they do end up finding Thor. Before they do though, they have to fight their way through Frost Giants and the general, horrendous weather that permeates Jotunheim. Once they find Thor though, Wolverine sees a look that he knows all too well. In his attempt for survival, Thor has killed many giants and gone into a full berserker rage.

As for Frigga and her team, just as they are about to destroy the Black Bifrost, Daredevil and his team lose control of the situation at their Bifrost, causing it to be destroyed. This leaves the Black Bifrost as the only way to travel between realms, forcing Frigga to decide to no longer destroy, but to protect it from Malekith’s forces.

As for the rest of the Avengers’ forces on Earth, they’re doing the best they can, but they are hopelessly outgunned at this point. Even with Thor possibly back in the picture, it’s unclear how they are even slightly capable of winning this fight.

Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman are crafting a very enjoyable story with War of the Realms that can often feel like its juggling too many things for its own good.
