15. The Star-Spangled Man With A Plan

Film: Captain America: The First Avenger

For a hero that would go on to save the world countless times, destroy Hydra, shut down S.H.I.E.L.D., and even get himself declared a war criminal, it’s safe to say that the word “badass” just doesn’t do Captain America justice.

He’s a force to be reckoned with and a hardened hero that time-displacement really did a number on. That said, as badass as all of that is, it still brings a smile to our faces whenever we think about the very first time that Steve Rogers donned a version of that patriotic uniform.

Used as a poster-boy to inspire American soldiers to enlist, the newly enhanced Steve was christened Captain America as he went on to star in a stage show, during which he read lines of encouragement to potential recruits as he was serenaded by a troupe of beautiful women who all sang the incredibly infectious “The Star-Spangled Man With A Plan.” His popularity would sky-rocket as he would end up touring the country, headlining his own comic book series and even starring in his own pictures.

As humorous as this montage was, it was practically a precursor of things to come. Captain America wasn’t just a war solider, he was a hero that could inspire people on every stage imaginable and he didn’t waste any time in doing so. His words of encouragement gave the public hope in a time when there wasn’t any and this in itself was barely even scratching the surface of what he was capable of.

Moreover, it was also a nice touch to see Chris Evans sport an incredibly comic-accurate (albeit cosplay-like) version of Captain America’s uniform – the color scheme of which would inspire many of his later outfits (especially in The Avengers).
