13. Captain America Silences Thor And Iron Man

Film: The Avengers

How do you stop a war between an Asgardian and a metal man? Why, you call Captain America of course!

In the first act of 2012’s The Avengers, it was pretty clear that the MCU’s team of heroes had their work cut out for them because, no matter how good their intentions, they couldn’t keep their individual egos in check. So, when Thor arrived from Asgard to retrieve Loki and the Tesseract, Tony Stark decided to be as reckless as ever and pick a fight with the Mighty one without consulting anyone else.

Predictably, this didn’t go down too well with the future King of Asgard and an all-out war ensued. Despite being physically and supernaturally outmatched, Iron Man managed to hold his own against his god-like opponent as the two fought in one heck of a back-and-forth battle.

Captain America interrupted the meaningless scuffle to speak some sense but, alas, the two heroes were enraged and, after Tony paid the price for refusing to keep his mouth shut, Thor set his sights on Cap and intended to level him with his mighty hammer. However, as the hammer reigned down from above, it collided with Cap’s formidable shield, creating a shockwave that sent Thor and Iron Man flying away.

When the dust settled, only Captain America was left standing as the other two began to realize just how silly they looked. And with that, there was peace among the heroes.

Not only did this reveal that the world’s strongest metal could even withstand unearthly forces, it reiterated what Cap truly was – a beacon of hope that would not be silenced by any force on this earth or another, and it was that hope that allowed Thor and Iron Man to overcome their pig-headedness and see the light.

On this day, Captain America was Earth’s Mightiest Hero.
