Does Rogue Care More about Carol Danvers Than Remy’s Abs?

After all, Gambit offers Rogue something which must sound like heaven to most of Tumblr. Himself, without a shirt, in bed, with Netflix, ice cream, and cats. Unfortunately, Rogue’s become too responsible to shirk all of her duties for longer than a few hours. She’s not the plucky anti-heroine trying to prove herself or be a rebel without a cause; she’s been an X-Men leader and a longtime Avenger. And when Captain Marvel calls her personally for help, Rogue can’t refuse!

Readers of Captain Marvel have known for two issues that Rogue turns up there. Considering Kelly Thompson writes both titles, it remained to be seen whether or not she would sync both titles up. This issue of Mr. & Mrs. X gives a clear window into when Rogue wound up on Roosevelt Island, and ultimately brainwashed by Nuclear Man into fighting Carol. It’s a fun bit for continuity hounds, especially fans of the interconnected books that Claremont, Bryne, or even Bendis managed.

It is fitting because both Mr. & Mrs. X and Captain Marvel have touched on the same shared history between Carol and Rogue. This title, obviously, centered on the latter. Rogue managed to pull herself together last issue and face her fears in large part because of the many positive traits she absorbed from Carol over the years. She even revisited a time when Carol took over her body and proved to have none of the limitations of the absorbing power that Rogue herself did.
