An Enjoyable Ride with an Adventurous Duo!
Oscar Bazaldua and Frank D’Armata continue along their great run on art and colors, respectively. Bazaldua has drawn nine out of ten issues so far, which is a commendable run for a “main” artist on an ongoing series these days. Many titles seem to lack a main artist these days. As usual, Bazaldua is in his element depicting scenes of spectacular battle, and has done a terrific job with Spiral in particular. If this arc has done anything, it gives the six-armed warrior witch her due!

With Thompson’s West Coast Avengers being canned this month, it may become a fair question how many more issues this run will have. March’s sales figures are in, and the gap between this title and WCA is under 3,000 copies. Mr. & Mrs. X has been solicited another two issues, but what then? Will the next two issues try to cram both a subplot resolution and an epilogue on a plucky marriage within 40 pages? Or have the adventures of this well known couple only begun?
Whatever flaws Thompson may have in terms of plots, she more than makes up for in her zeal for the stars, and ultimately, fans tune in for characters more than stories in this medium.
