Peter Parker isn’t the only one who likes MJ in Spider-Man: Far From Home

It looks like Peter Parker will have a rival for Michelle’s attention in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
The relationship between Peter Parker and Michelle Jones will grow in Spider-Man: Far From Home, with the two gradually starting a budding romance. But don’t expect them to get together right away, as someone else will be seeking MJ’s affection.
During their set visit last summer, io9 learned that MJ will have another suitor in the form of Brad, a new character played by Crazy Rich Asians star Remy Hii. According to executive producer Eric Carroll, Brad will be presented as the perfect guy. However, he teases that he may not be all he’s cracked up to be:
"“He is the kind of guy guys like me and Peter hated in high school. His hair is always looking right, the clothes always fit the way they’re supposed to, he always would have something funny to say, and he’s read all the same books as M.J.—or at least he lies and says he’s read all the same books as M.J.”"
While the character won’t be a bully in the traditional sense, he will serve as a significant obstacle for Peter as he attempts to woo Michelle:
"“…he’s not the stereotypical bully, but, he is an obstacle. He’s not mean-spirited. He doesn’t pick on Peter or shove him in lockers. He just happens to make the girls Peter likes laugh a lot, which makes Peter uncomfortable.”"

A potential relationship between Peter and MJ was alluded to in Spider-Man: Homecoming, despite the former’s infatuation with Liz in that film. Now, it seems the tables have somewhat turned, and Michelle will have someone else vying for her attention.
The emphasis on Peter Parker’s personal relationships has always been present in Spider-Man comics, as Carroll points out. Throughout his publication history, the web-slinger has had plenty of love interests, ranging from Mary Jane Watson to Mockingbird. Although there are some who can do without the love stories, many would agree that they’ve humanized Spider-Man and led to some compelling moments in the comics.
Hopefully, the same will be true in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Michelle is different from many of the women Peter has dated in the comics. And based on their brief, but memorable, scenes in Homecoming, this could be an interesting dynamic. We’ll just have to wait and see how young love plays out when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2.
