The Deathstroke animated series is going to the wrong platform

The Deathstroke the animated series is going to be killer good, but the CW Seed is the wrong place for it.

Casual and hardcore DC fans love the not always evil, Deathstroke. Slade Wilson, the former military man turned super powered mercenary for hire, is an absolute beast. So the fact that Warner Bros. has plans to utilize him makes sense.

We’ve heard rumors of a solo movie for the character and a series on the DC Universe streaming service. For many fans, Deathstroke the Terminator is known as the main villain of the Teen Titans.

As a matter of fact, DC Universe’s Titans has cast its very own version of the antihero. Now, Deadline is reporting WB has plans to develop a Deathstroke animated series for the CW Seed. But this isn’t an origin story. This is Deathstroke: Knights and Dragons. The report also included a synopsis of the upcoming show:

"“Ten years ago, Slade Wilson—aka the super-assassin called Deathstroke—made a tragic mistake and his wife and son paid a terrible price. Now, a decade later, Wilson’s family is threatened once again by the murderous Jackal and the terrorists of H.I.V.E. Can Deathstroke atone for the sins of the past—or will his family pay the ultimate price?”"

There’s no doubt that Slade Wilson is worthy of exploration and exploitation, especially with his rich history. Still, instead of having a series on CW Seed, WB should have made this project a DC Universe series.

As mentioned earlier, Titans is set to feature their own version of Deathstroke. Imagine a series that follows a flash forward version of The Terminator. But it’s more than that.

The DC Universe needs more original content. Even if it’s just a miniseries, fresh is fresh, and DC’s streaming service needs it.

While there isn’t any direct competition, Disney Plus undoubtedly will see far more subscribers than the DCU. Why? It’s all due to their original content, in addition to nostalgia.

Deathstroke is the type of character fans can get into. His ability to cross over from villain to anti-villain or even hero makes him more compelling. Fans and Deathstroke deserve an animated series.

However, If WB wants more people to subscribe to DC Universe, giving the content like Deathstroke: Knights and Dragons would be a very smart move.
