Nuclear Man gets an atomic beatdown in Captain Marvel No. 5

The battle rages across two fronts. Most of Carol’s “lady liberators” are dismantling the robot-men and freeing their captive male relatives and friends within them. As for Carol and her avenging pals, they’re taking the fight directly to Mahkizmo himself. While She-Hulk’s seen quite a shift to her powers since her near death at the hands of Thanos during Civil War II, trading intellect for strength much like her cousin has. Even Hazmat, a novice fresh from Avengers Academy, gets in her licks!

Mahkizmo, however, didn’t earn the name “Nuclear Man” for nothing. He eats radiation for breakfast and scatters the field with a “nuclear punch” — which he calls out as if this were a Capcom video game. Only Carol, Rogue, and She-Hulk are left standing, but the trio prove to be more than enough. As Carol narrates, Mahkizmo is a rare treat for her. As a threat, she doesn’t have to worry about holding back against for fear of killing him. The atomic jerk can take all the punishment he deserves!

However, Mahkizmo proves that he has bravado, yet no courage, when the chips are down. Much as he did in earlier issues, he flees any fight he hasn’t rigged in his favor or has the advantage in. He takes Som with him for his latest teleport, arguably hurting Carol worse in defeat than at any point. Despite being suspicious of Som, Danvers came around to his good intentions and had done her best to help him. Now, he remains a pawn of his evil father, who had no qualms about sacrificing him.
