Freyja has taken the Black Bifrost in order to provide cover for the rest of the Avengers to fight Malekith’s forces and also recruit allies to their cause. Spoilers for War of the Realms no. 4 follow.

Now that Freyja is the keeper of the Black Bifrost, she’s able to send her agents out to the other realms in order to gather reinforcements. First up, the Punisher arrives in Alfheim, much to the dismay of the Light Elves. He’s able to convince them that he’s on their side though, bringing new allies into the fight on Midgard.

Freyja sends Hulk to Nidavellir to gather the dwarves, Blade to Vanaheim to recruit the Vanir, and Ghost Rider to Niffleheim to bring the Spiders of Hel. Simultaneously, Freyja opens a portal to bring Captain America’s team on Jotunheim back home with Thor. But as soon as Captain America’s team arrives back at Avengers Mountain, Black Panther and his team is protecting the headquarters from an attack. Really though, it’s no problem for Shuri to take care of.

The Avengers get Thor to the infirmary, only to have Odin stumble out of the infirmary inquiring where Freyja is at. They tell him that she’s on Svartlfheim and, just as he’s about to enter the Black Bifrost, Iron Man and a dwarf arrive to provide him with a new suit of armor. He bursts out next to an injured Freyja, only for them both to fight off hordes of Dark Elves before they are killed and the Black Bifrost destroyed.

Now that the Avengers are able to go on the offensive though, All-Mother Jane Foster begins to rally the troops and none other than Thor arrives to lead the charge against Malekith’s forces.

This event has felt like a series of battles, which is a war, so that makes sense. But it’s had very little time to breathe. The character moments, while good, have been few and far between and everything is moving at a breakneck speed, not really equally providing the hills of action and valleys of character moments that a story like this should have. That’s not to say it’s bad, but it feels like there could’ve been a use in having more issues or longer issues.
