Will This Be a Real “Return of the Shredder?”
The artwork by Santolouco is nothing short of breathtaking. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has always had the pleasure of having many artists at the top of their game working on it. Some of them may not be household names (yet), but that doesn’t make their passion or work any less exceptional. From the extensively diverse designs of random demons to the Dragon himself, to the giant tentacle monster, no creature or item in this story is wasted, or rushed.

The end game of this series still remains a mystery. Will the Shredder be resurrected? He’s had a history of being overused to the point of irrelevance in other adaptations, and the main TMNT comic has plenty of villains who have filled the gap since his demise. Agent Bishop, Krang, Ch’Rell, even his “granddaughter” Karai, for instance. Perhaps worse, might Saki come back as an anti-hero, taking his popularity in real life too far, much as the titular Shrek did in most of his sequels?

On the other hand, Bobby Curnow has long edited a series in which the lines between “good” and “evil” are often blurry, mutable, and often dependent on circumstance. The Shredder has long represented the ultimate evil in the world of the Ninja Turtles, but what happens if a greater evil emerges? If even Darth Vader could be redeemed at the end of his journey, why not Shredder? Could Oroku be pitted against Karai, or another “Shredder” that Kitsune creates? A series that raises a lot of questions is one full of suspense, and TMNT: Shredder In Hell does that in spades. And the finale is guaranteed to shape the main TMNT title for possibly years to come!
