Movie: Guardians of the Galaxy
Ronan the Accuser is known around the galaxy as a being to be feared. After failing to get one of the Infinity Stones, Ronan was ordered to come meet Thanos in person. He did as he was told. During an argument, Ronan kills The Other for speaking to him disrespectfully. Ronan then turned his attention Thanos and asked the Mad Titan to take the matter seriously. The whole time Ronan spoke Thanos had his back to him. He then slowly turned his floating chair around and said, “The only matter I don’t take seriously, BOY, is you. Your politics BORE me. Your demeanor is that of a pouty child.” Ronan only stood in silence. Check and mate.
Ronan didn’t attempt to talk back. In fact, he didn’t speak at all, ven after Thanos threatened him and floated in his seat smiling. We saw that Ronan isn’t someone who backs down from a fight, but he knew he was severely outmatched in this case. Thanos barely had to raise his voice to get his point across. Thanos said, “Return to me empty-handed again and I will bathe the starways in your blood.” Even after Ronan got the Power Stone, he went after Xandar first. Maybe Ronan knew even with the Power Stone, he wouldn’t have been enough to beat the Mad Titan.
