Rumor: Marvel Studios is weighing options on Deadpool’s MCU introduction

If a new rumor is to be believed, Marvel Studios is currently thinking of possible scenarios that would bring Deadpool into the MCU.

With Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s assets now complete, they now have access to a number of new film franchises, including Fox’s Marvel properties. However, there hasn’t appeared to be any real movement on those projects at the moment. But a new rumor suggests that Marvel Studios currently has Deadpool on its mind.

MCU Cosmic reports that Marvel Studios is currently brainstorming ways to introduce Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the report, the studio is currently considering three possible options.

The first is to release a new solo film, which would essentially be a Deadpool 3. The second is to produce a limited series for the character through Disney Plus. And the final option would be to have the character show up in a third Spider-Man film. MCU Cosmic stresses that all of this should be taken with a grain of salt.

All three choices are intriguing approaches for the studio to take. The obvious one would be the first, since it would make the most sense just to finish out the trilogy with a third film that somehow connects to the MCU. The second option is a bit unexpected because, as MCU Cosmic points out, Disney Plus is aiming to release family-friendly content and Deadpool doesn’t quite fit that mold.

Of course, the third option is the most intriguing of the three. Having the Merc with a Mouth show up in the web-slinger’s third solo outing would give his world a real jilt. The move would also continue this Spider-Man film series’ trend of having major characters like Iron Man and Nick Fury appear in each film. In addition, there’s also plenty of comedic material to be mined from having those two characters together.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has made it clear that it will be a little while before Fox’s Marvel characters appear in the MCU. But if this new rumor turns out to be true, Deadpool could arrive sooner rather than later.
