Marvel Studios may have put the pieces in place for a Silk movie

Sony is reportedly developing a Silk film, but Marvel Studios may actually be in a better position to introduce the heroine.
Sony’s Marvel Universe has only just begun but, so far, the franchise is off to a solid start. Venom, the first film in the series, scored over $800 million worldwide during its box office run. And now, the studio is already looking to keep things going with Jared Leto’s Morbius and a slew of other projects. One of those proposed projects is a movie centered on the character of Silk.
It’s no surprise Silk, or Cindy Moon, has drawn the interest of the studio. Since her debut in Amazing Spider-Man in 2014, the character has gained a strong following. Aside from being a skilled fighter with unique, spider-based abilities, she also adds a bit of diversity as an Asian-American woman. Sony could do quite a bit with her in the future, but Marvel Studios may be able to use her right now.
Fans may have noticed that Cindy Moon has already been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cindy made her live-action debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming, where she was played by Tiffany Espensen. This version of the character was depicted as a classmate of Peter Parker. And while she was last seen as a teen in a quick Avengers: Infinity War cameo, she may not be one the next time we see her.

One of the biggest surprises of Avengers: Endgame was the five-year time jump that occurred early in the film. Of course, during this time, certain characters like Peter Parker and Ned were dusted and, when they returned, they were still young. Additionally, Spider-Man: Far From Home trailers revealed that characters like Michelle, Flash and Betty were also dusted, explaining why they’re still teens in the sequel. However, Cindy hasn’t been seen at all.
Cindy, along with others like Sally, Charles and Abraham, have not appeared in any Far From Home trailers or clips. Now, it could just be that they just opted not to join Peter and the others on their European trip. Or it could be that they survived the Snap and aged out of high school. And there is a chance this could be the case, as director Jon Watts has teased that the effects of the time jump will be explored in the film.
If Cindy did, in fact, avoid getting Snapped and aged five years, this could make her between 19 and 21 years old by the events of Far From Home. This would put her in a prime position to become Silk. Or maybe she’s already obtained her powers and become the superheroine.
In the comic books, Cindy did gain her spider powers on the same day Peter Parker did. And maybe after hiding them in her teens, she’s accepted and mastered them as a young adult. The possibilities really are infinite.
One way or another, audiences are going to see Silk on the big screen, whether that’s in the MCU or Sony’s Marvel Universe remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the character has potential in both franchises. But it would be fun if she were able to cross paths with the likes of Spider-Man and Captain Marvel in the MCU.
