Raphael Takes the Fight to Null in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles No. 94
By Alex Widen
Harold’s Too Old for This Spit!
Metalhead’s second enemy is its creator, Harold Lilja. He met Donatello online, and the pair have collaborated on hi-tech projects ever since. It’s been Tom Waltz’s attempt to explain how Don creates such tech without resources or training so quickly — he has a helper. Lilja had abandoned the Turtles once their exploits caused him to be kidnapped by the mobster Darius Dunn, who had also employed his ex-wife, Libby. Yet now, it’s his experience with mutagen which is key!

As showcased in the Free Comic Book Day issue, Karai has prevented the Turtles from getting Jennika — the second in command of Splinter’s Foot Clan — from getting her to a hospital. Left with no options, Don has brought the bleeding-out ninja woman to Harold’s lab. Knowing that mutagen ooze has the power to heal as well as mutate. Specifically, April O’Neil mixed a small sample of it into a cup of tea that he use to cure her father’s raging Alzheimer’s disease, and Lilja used a larger dose of it to heal Donatello when he was mortally wounded by Bebop and Rocksteady.

The Turtles had split up to try to occupy Karai’s minions in their futile quest to get Jennika to a hospital. By the time Casey Jones and Raphael turn up, it’s been decided to go for a desperate attempt to save Jennika with the ooze. Unfortunately, Harold and Libby can’t do it alone, and not even April (a genius intern of Baxtor Stockman’s) can talk them through. They need help from her old StockGen co-worker Lindsey Baker, who is currently the token human of Old Hob’s “Mutanimals” gang.
