Swamp Thing, which just premiered a week ago, has been canceled by DC Universe.

In what could be called a shocking turn of events, the DC Comics streaming service, DC Universe, has canceled it’s newest show, Swamp Thing, only one episode into it’s diminished 10-episode run. The series debuted on the streaming service on May 31st under James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Brothers Television.

Things had already looked dreary for the new show when its order was dropped from 13 to 10 episodes for the first season. Furthermore, Nellie Andreeva of Deadline reports:

"“There already had been chatter that new leadership of WarnerMedia was not particularly high on Swamp Thing.”"

More from DC Universe

Swamp Thing is the third show to premiere directly on the DC Universe streaming service. It was preceded by Titans, which has been picked up for season 2, and Doom Patrol, which has yet to receive an order for a second season.

There were rumors looming that the executives behind the streaming service had given up on the show before it had even aired. Nothing has been reported in regards to the reasoning for the lowering of the episodes for its inaugural season or for its cancellation as of yet.

There is also no telling what this will mean for the DC streaming service now that AT&T has acquired Time Warner and WarnerMedia is looking to start its own streaming service in the near future. Whether or not the DC Universe is absorbed into it remains to be seen. Until then, you can see the remaining episodes of Swamp Thing on the DC Universe streaming service and check out coverage of said episodes right here at Bam Smack Pow.
