A year out from the release of Wonder Woman 1984, director Patty Jenkins has unveiled the first poster for the upcoming DC Comics film.

Earlier today on Twitter, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins released the first poster in honor of the year-long countdown for the release of the long-awaited sequel to Wonder Woman. The poster isn’t much more than a teaser for the upcoming film, but it provides a sense of the change in style the film is going to partake in:

The most noticeable thing about this poster is the vibrant, neon coloring that surrounds Diana in an almost kaleidoscopic fashion. This really just feels like the marketing team is playing into the aesthetic of the 1980s in order to sell the film but, given that previous behind the scene images have shard at least slightly similar color palettes, it could be the aesthetic of the film as a whole.

Something that may be overlooked by some with this poster, though, is Diana’s new suit of armor presented in this poster. There have been previous images released of Wonder Woman in both casual clothes and her iconic suit before, but this is the first image or mention that she will be donning a new suit in this film. The real question is, who or what will cause her to don this new suit? Will it be Cheetah or an even larger threat?

As for the inspiration for the suit, it seems to be taking some slight design choices from David Finch’s short-lived redesign of Diana’s suit back in 2015. It even looks to be taking cues from Aquaman’s suit design, specifically with the scaling present on her arms and legs.
