Marvel producer expresses interest in showing Thanos’ origins

Marvel Studios producer Victoria Alonso would be interested in showing a young Thanos on the big screen.
With his appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Thanos cemented himself as the greatest villain the Marvel Cinematic Universe has offered audiences. But despite his memorable victory and later defeat at the hands of the Avengers, not much is known about his origins in the MCU. And it’s something Marvel Studios’ Victoria Alonso would like to explore.
During her recent Reddit AMA, the longtime Marvel Studios producer expressed her desire to tap into Thanos’ backstory. And while she doesn’t think it will happen anytime soon, she still believes it would be important to highlight:
"“To be honest with you I’ve always been interested in Thanos’ childhood, and although I don’t know if we will see it in one of our movies, I think it’s important to know how he became who he was.”"

Thanos has been depicted as a madman on a mission for most of his time in the MCU, which didn’t leave much room for exploration into his backstory. Avengers: Infinity War was originally intended to include his origins, but just about all of that was left on the cutting room floor.
Marvel Studios has attempted to use other avenues to dive into the Mad Titan’s history. Last year, they released Thanos: Titan Consumed, a young adult novel that focuses on the characters’ early life. But while the book is inspired by the MCU, it is non-canonical due to massive contradictions from the main continuity. With this, there is still an opportunity to tell the cosmic conqueror’s story.
As Alonso points out, this likely won’t be explored in depth at this point, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be more opportunities to fill in a few blanks. Many fans know Thanos is an Eternal (specifically a Deviant). And with The Eternals in the works at Marvel Studios, there could be some posthumous details on the character. Recently revealed concept art even depicts him with Eternals.
Thanos may not have much not have much of a future in the MCU, but he may still have a presence through his past.
