Mindy Kaling is still interested in working on a Ms. Marvel movie, and she’s even talked with Marvel about it.

There are a number of fans hoping to see Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel make her way to the big screen one day, and this includes Mindy Kaling. The writer and actress previously expressed interest in being involved with a possible film. Now, it seems she’s met with Marvel and even has thoughts on casting the young heroine.

While speaking with MTV News, Kaling revealed that she has spoken with a few people from Marvel about the project and they seem excited about it. However, Kaling says they’re still trying to decide on the best way to approach the property:

"“The people I’ve spoken to [at] Marvel about it are so excited about the character, and I think that they’re trying to figure out what to do with it, and I told them I would help in any way because I truly love her. But they seemed really interested, and I think they will probably do something. Now, that there’s, like, this streaming platform with them, it might be something like that, but I think they understand how much there is the excitement.”"

In regard to who should play Kamala Khan, Kaling thinks it would be fun to see an unknown actress play the role:

"“You know, I feel it might need to be an unknown. Right, it might need to be an unknown, wouldn’t that be exciting?”"

With Khan’s mentor, Carol Danvers, being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many believed Ms. Marvel could arrive at some point in the future. This was eventually confirmed by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Not long after Feige’s confirmation, Kaling, along with Riz Ahmed, expressed interest in writing the film.

Marvel being excited about the character doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. She’s popular with comic book fans and has already made a splash in Marvel’s animated projects like Avengers Assemble and Marvel Rising. And as a young, Pakastani-American woman, she would add another layer of diversity to the MCU.

Casting an unknown in the role would also be a shrewd move on Marvel Studios’ part. By casting a fresh face, audiences wouldn’t have too many preconceived notions about how the actress will perform. And as time goes on, they can watch her develop and grow into the role, just as they’ve done with Tom Holland and Spider-Man.

Ms. Marvel likely won’t join the MCU for at least several years, but Kaling and Marvel’s enthusiasm could bring her to the big screen even sooner.
