Marvel Comics’ Strikeforce looks to be one scary team
By Mark Lynch
Marvel Comics creates a new deadly Strikeforce team!
Once upon a time, it was rare to see a Marvel Comics hero kill. The old school Avengers didn’t approve of that, and the phrase for the X-Men was that, “X-Men don’t kill.” Well, unless your name is Wolverine. The unwritten no killing rule for heroes has changed over the years. Titles like X-Force, Guardians of the Galaxy, and, most recently, the Savage Avengers are examples of how Marvel Comics has changed their tune when it comes to killing. Now, it looks like there is another team that will be right in the mix when it comes to killing. Welcome Strikeforce to the Marvel Universe.
Comicbook.com reported that writer Tini Howard and artist German Peralta will be the creative team behind the group that consists of the vampire hunter Blade, the daughter of Odin Angela, Spider-Woman (who’s sporting her old costume on the cover), the son of Satan Daimon Hellstrom, Spectrum (Monica Rambeau), Wiccan, and Winter Soldier. It looks like this team will be the new version of Red Hulk’s Thunderbolts. They took care of all the missions that were too dirty for the public Avengers team to be seen doing, and this appears to be the case here, especially after what Tini Howard tweeted:
What can we expect?

First, the name Strikeforce seems to come right out of Jason Aaron’s War of the Realms title. There were a couple of teams who had specific missions during this war. Cap’s team went after Thor, while Captain Marvel’s War Avengers Strikeforce seemed to be defending people all over the world. After the series is over, there will be some loose ends that need to be tied up. That’s where Angela comes in. Since she is a child of Odin, she will know how to deal with the enemies who may have escaped.
Blade means vampires. In Avengers No. 19, we find out there is someone working for Dracula in the Avengers Celestial base. With Wiccan and Daimon Hellstrom’s involvement, that means magic-based villains, as well. And Winter Soldier and Spider-Woman will be more than helpful with their ruthlessness and stealthy backgrounds.
This has the potential to be the most to be the most fun you’ll get out of a comic book. All of these characters have proven themselves as tough and funny, and their different personalities will more than likely cause some clashes. For example, it’ll be interesting to see how Wiccan gets along with everyone in this group. They’re all heroes who have been through a lot and have no problem killing. While Wiccan is an experienced hero in his own right, he doesn’t have the experience his teammates do. We’ll have to wait and see what happens when he feels like they’ve gone too far. But on thing that’s for sure is this is going to be one of the toughest teams in comic book history.
