If you just read that heading and thought “Wait, what?” you probably weren’t the only one, but bear with us here because, as baffling as it sounds, Reddit user u/Scrugulus makes quite the case for why Mysterio/Quentin Beck might actually be the notorious trickster from Jötunheimr.
Mysterio’s identity has often been a topic of debate because, while the character looks like Mysterio, there is just something about him that is making fans think that he is someone else entirely. This is where Loki comes in because, as the theory aptly points out, Thor’s brother is also a master of trickery and sorcery and he even possesses the ability to shapeshift.
You might now be thinking “But wait, Loki died in Avengers: Infinity War!” and, although you technically aren’t wrong, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t still alive (in a manner of speaking). Remember the 2012 Loki that managed to abscond with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame when all hell broke loose? Well the theory suggests that, after doing so, this version of the character studied the multiple timelines and, following the other snaps and their effects on the universe, discovered the existence of the multiverse.
It also makes a great point in that Loki tends to pull others into messes that he creates which absolutely appears to coincide with Mysterio’s M.O. in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailers.
Is this theory quite “out there”? Absolutely. Does that mean that it can’t be true? Hell no. We’ve seen in the past just how illusive, effective, seductive, manipulative (the list goes on…) that Loki can be, so it would be totally within his nature to pull something like this.
