Aubrey Plaza as Catwoman?

Recently, a new Batman was cast. To the chagrin of fans, Matt Reeves officially casts Twilight’s Robert Pattinson to play Batman in his upcoming project. It looks like the next casting will be his on again off again love interest Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman. It looks like we may have another name to throw into the hat. Aubrey Plaza jokingly said she was interested.

During an interview on Late Night with Stephen Colbert, Stephen Colbert asked Aubrey Plaza about her interest in playing Catwoman. Plaza said, “I’ve said that in a couple of interviews.” Plaza went on to say, “I get asked questions like, ‘If you were a superhero which one would wanna be’ and I always just think of Catwoman because I love the character and I love Catwoman movie. The Halle Berry movie” She then said there is “no way in Hell they’d cast me.” Plaza then went on to put on a pair of cat ears and play with a toy like a cat.

Plaza may think she doesn’t have a chance, but fans of her who’ve followed her career would disagree. Aubrey Plaza is well known for her comedic roles. Dirty GrandpaMike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and, of course, Parks and Recreation.

However, Plaza will be in the upcoming remake of Child’s Play, a performance that is out of her norm.

Plaza also no stranger to comic book roles, taking a main spotlight in FX’s Legion, which ends after its third season. She has shown a good amount of range in Legion, as well, and has rhythm, so it would not be a stretch to see her play an athletic cat burglar.

Comedic actors tend to get overlooked for some reason. Even though we’ve seen them go on to play roles fans assumed they couldn’t. Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Sarah Silverman, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are just a handful of comedic actors who stepped outside of their box to give people performances they’d never forget.

There have been a few fan-made selections for Catwoman like Vanessa Hudgens and Morena Baccarin, with fanart of them dressed as Catwoman, and they both look purrfect. For fans who think this is a terrible idea, let’s not forget people looked down on Anne Hathaway (Catwoman) Michael Keaton (Batman) and Heath Ledger (Joker) when they were cast. Each of them rocked their roles.
