1. Marsai Martin
If you haven’t seen her as the sassy, somewhat demonic Diane Johnson on ABC’s Blackish, then you’re missing out. The 14-year old actress is already making a name for herself beyond the hit series.
As a matter of fact, she starred in Tina Gordon’s comedy, Little. Martin showed off her skills by mimicking Regina Hall’s likeness in the body swapping film. Martin, receiving critical praise from Variety’s Peter Deburg for her portrayal as the young, Jordan Sanders.
"“Marsai Martin’s performance all the more impressive… Rather than simply imitating the mannerisms Hall displayed… Martin convincingly suggests that her adolescent body is inhabited by a woman who believes she’s paid her dues… annoyed when the grown-ups around her no longer respond to her every command.”"
Should Disney opt dip back into their pool of actresses, Martin makes sense. Her acting ability is only going to get better. Riri Williams makes sense especially with her being around the same age as the comic book character. Because of her age, she brings a different type of realism.
Martin can grow with the role and play the hero for years to come. If her age is a concern, look at Brightburn and Shazam!, to some degree as evidence that a child can carry a film. We haven’t seen a child hold down an MCU movie, maybe Martin can be the first.
