Who could play the villains in The Batman?

It seems that all of The Batman villains are finally set, but who could play this infamous sextuplet?

According to We Got This Covered, Robert Pattinson’s Batman will not only face Penguin and Catwoman, but also Two-Face, the Riddler, Firefly, and Mad Hatter, as well. Not only are these some of the most dangerous villains the Dark Knight has ever faced, but these are the most villains to ever appear in a single Batman film.

While there has been a lot of controversy around Pattinson’s casting as everyone’s favorite Caped Crusader, it seems these select villains may be a huge redeeming quality. Every Batman movie is defined by the actor playing the seminal role, as well as what rogues are chosen to round out the cast, so it seems The Batman is gearing up to be one of the best in the series so far.

However, an excellent group of villains is nothing without the right actors for the parts. So without further ado, let us discuss who should portray each villain in The Batman!

Mad Hatter: Jason Schwartzman

The Mad Hatter is a character that has been around since the 1960s television show with the late Adam West, and it is about time for the character to hit the big screen. Having a rebirth in the Batman: Arkham games, Mad Hatter has turned into somewhat of a creepy, psychopathic hypnotist, who has a flair for the Alice in Wonderland mythos.

Jason Schwartzman is absolutely perfect for a character like this. Just look at his villainous role as Gideon Graves in the criminally underrated Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. He has the shorter stature that is usually associated with Jervis Tetch and, when it comes to weird and unhinged characters, there may not be any better choice than Schwartzman.

Two-Face: Nicholas Hoult

Nicholas Hoult was beaten out for the role of Batman by Robert Pattinson, but it is still entirely possible for him to be associated with the project. Aside from Batman, Hoult is entirely suited for Two-Face, as emphasized by some of his previous works.

Hoult has played charismatic, clean cut do-gooders before, but he can also be dark if he needs to be. And he has acting range that will undoubtedly be needed for Two-Face. Harvey Dent was known as the White Knight before his unfortunate accident and, with two drastically different personalities packed into one character, only an actor as diverse as Hoult would be able to do the lawyer turned criminal mastermind justice

Firefly: Dane DeHaan

Firefly is a character who is a professional arsonist and, with that trademark, comes a lot of emotional and mental turmoil. An actor who has played those types of characters throughout his entire career is Dane DeHaan.

Not only does DeHaan have a naturally tormented look and aura, but he has played this archetype of character before in Green Goblin. Even though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an utterly horrible movie, DeHaan’s Green Goblin is an excellent example of why he is perfect for Firefly, and he should truly be the sole choice for any casting agent worth their salt.

The Riddler: Matthew Goode

The Riddler is a character that fans have been desperate to see done right in a live-action movie, and this may be the perfect opportunity to do so. Edward Nygma is an extremely difficult character to capture perfectly on screen, but an actor like Matthew Goode is charismatic enough to pull off the intellectual criminal mastermind.

Nygma is not just one of the smartest villains in all of Batman’s mythos, but he is also extremely vain and cocky, which Goode has pulled off perfectly before as Ozymandias in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen. He has the skinny, unassuming look that is expected from the Riddler and, when it comes to the archetype of the character, Goode is a perfect fit.

The Penguin: Nick Frost

When it comes to a character that is shaped like the Penguin, there are very few actors in Hollywood that could successfully fill his shoes, but Nick Frost is certainly fits the bill. Frost is mainly a comedic actor, yet some of his recent roles may actually prove that he has what it takes to portray a villain as dangerous as Oswald Cobblepot.

Particularly, Frost has shown a wealth of range in the AMC series Into the Badlands, where he plays a former monk who is- you guessed it- a master of kung-fu and sword fighting. Being able to play a character that is so far from what he is used to makes Frost one of the best options for Cobblepot, and having the perfect look and stature for the character just adds in an extra layer of perfection.

Catwoman: Tessa Thompson

Catwoman has been one of Batman’s major love interests for years, but she is also an extremely dangerous and capable villain. So the role needs an actor that is just as capable. Tessa Thompson is not only in every movie ever right now, but she is also absolutely perfect for Selina Kyle.

Kyle is a character that often switches between good and evil, and mostly serves herself, which is a lot like the MCU version of Valkyrie. Thompson is excellent at portraying the love interest of strong heroes, as well as being a strong hero herself, so she could easily bring both of those aspects to one character.
