Disney and Marvel will re-release Avengers: Endgame this weekend, but what exactly was added after the credits? Spoilers to follow.
First off, absolutely nothing has changed from the original release of Avengers: Endgame, all the way up until the post-credits soundbite of Tony Stark hammering away on his first suit from the opening film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After that, we are treated to three pieces of footage that were tacked on to the special re-release of the film.
Tribute to Stan Lee
Interviews and clips of the late Stan Lee on the Marvel movie sets are cut together in an emotional segment. Stan describes his wonderment about how he could have never imagined that his creations would turn into global blockbuster movies. Most of the footage is of Stan Lee filming his MCU cameos.
Aside from the actors he worked with, there are a few shots of “The Man” with directors Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh, Taika Waititi, and James Gunn; the latter echoes the sentiment spoken by countless others… that no one would be here making these movies if it weren’t for Stan Lee. The tribute ends with the words “We Love You 3000” written on the screen.
Deleted Hulk scene
The next footage is introduced by director Anthony Russo as a scene that they loved but couldn’t keep in the final cut. It is an alternate introduction to Professor Hulk, where he helps save people from a burning building. He then gets a phone call from someone named Steve, or as he puts it “Steve who?”, obviously not expecting to hear from Captain America.

Hulk acting out heroic deeds goes along with his fans asking for pictures and autographs in the diner, which is the first time we see the Banner/Hulk concoction in the theatrical cut. The diner scene would not have surprised as much if the fire rescue would have been included in Endgame, since the former presents us with a slow reveal of the character, a tactic typically reserved for first-time encounters. Before he appears on screen in the diner, Ant-Man watches Hulk gobbling down loads of food in amazement, a reaction intended to extend to the audience upon our first glimpse of Professor Hulk.
Far From Home scene
The shortest piece of content is a taste of the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home. It shows Nick Fury and Maria Hill investigating a natural disaster in Mexico, which Fury suspects is no ordinary, earthly event. They meet Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio for about a second before an elemental being emerges from the ground. This looks to be the MCU version of Sandman. Mysterio gets ready to work his magic before the scene cuts.
Basically, all of the extra content is what fans would normally find in the bonus material of a DVD. But with Avengers: Endgame currently being the second biggest movie of all-time, millions of people are still going to turn out to watch it again on the big screen. And speaking of the biggest movies of all-time… Endgame was less than $40 million away from topping Avatar’s worldwide box-office revenue prior to this weekend. Will the re-release push Endgame to the top box office spot?
