He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot continues production
It was reported that the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot had stopped production, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Just when things seemed to be tracking well, there is a setback regarding the development of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe reboot from Sony Pictures. Comicbook.com debunked a scoop from Heroic Hollywood that the studio has shut down production of the film.
There was a previous report from a source named Production Weekly that the Masters of the Universe was to start filming in mid-July, which is in line with the film’s release on March 5, 2021. Admittedly, I hypothesized that production may be delayed due to the recently cast Noah Centineo needing to be trained for the role of He-Man. This theory seems to match what the aforementioned report from Comicbook.com declared.
While Heroic Hollywood claimed the reboot was shutdown, albeit temporarily due to concerns of budget and script, Comicbook.com insisted the film was on track and reported that the development team is bringing about the look of the film. This includes, but is not limited to, the costumes, designs and other production elements, while the cast proceed with training. They also alluded to a source that inferred that translating the kingdom of Eternia to live-action is too expensive for the project.

A recent editorial on Bam Smack Pow broke down the creative team and branding partners involved, such as Sony and Mattel could face during the release of Masters of the Universe. It briefly outlined the development, the casting of Centineo, its competition upon release, how another Mattel property may determine the future of other live-action adaptations of Mattel products including He-Man, and how screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway’s track record are a mixed bag.
It remains to be seen, as stated before, what Aaron and Adam Nee of 2015’s Band of Robbers, a crime-comedy which is a modern retelling of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, have in mind for the He-Man reboot. The easiest way to retell Masters of the Universe for a new generation, aside from the Filmation run of the series, is for the pair to add their own spin, but remain true to the source material at the same time.
