All Those Pockets for Cards, None for Antiseptic!

Fortunately, despite being literally stripped naked, Remy always has a trick up his sleeve. He wasn’t given the title “King of Thieves” for his looks! Hence, he prepares to stare down Candra and her offer, which serves as a (blunt) metaphor for the duality that rules Remy’s life. Can he be a superhero or a thief? One of the X-Men or the leader of the Thieves’ Guild? A husband or an honorable ex? Can he be all that and a box of playing cards, or does he really have to choose?

Rather than make an impossible choice, Remy offers the heroic solution — self-sacrifice. He’ll seemingly allow Candra to sacrifice him if both Rogue and Bella go free. Candra is insulted that Remy’s changing her rules and, in truth, Remy had no intention to play along longer than he had to. He literally spits at Candra’s offer and, this time, it’s ball bearings baring a stored kinetic charge! He’d smuggled them in inside a torso wound, which is both horribly clever and gross all at once!

As a result, Gambit not only rescues himself but both of the loves of his life. Rogue had apparently been playing possum waiting for Remy to provide her an opening to use a lock-pick, which he does. Once again, the pair escape soft-core bondage to lay waste to their enemies as a “battle couple,” even managing to impress the normally unflappable Bella Donna. In no time at all, minions in mohawk hairdos and trench coats are scattered all over the place.
