Did Emma Frost just help or hurt the X-Men and the mutant community?

If you haven’t been reading Matt Rosenberg’s Uncanny X-Men, then you’ve missed out on some of the best stories about the X-Men. There have been a lot of losses throughout, and this issue was no different. The X-Men went to help Emma Frost escape the clutches of the O*N*E (Office of National Emergency). In the end, the X-Men did their job, and Emma saved the day. She did so by making the world forget that mutants even existed.

The X-Men have spent the better part of their existence being feared and hated by humanity, even though the only thing that separates them from other superpowered beings is the X-Gene. With the new law passed stating that kids with X-Genes get a shot to prevent their powers, things are about to get weird.

What happens when these powers appear? Are the parents and hospitals going to know how to treat the kids? What about people in the street who suddenly get powers? Who will they turn to with the Earth’s Mightiest Mutants no longer existing? Will these new people with powers still be hated because they were born different? Then there’s the history of the mutants and their effect on the world.

Does this mean the history of the X-Men doesn’t exist anymore? Wolverine alone has ties to almost every place on the globe. Then there’s Storm, Beast, Cannonball, and Sunspot, who were all Avengers. What’s going to happen when the Avengers try to fill in the blank spots in their minds where their former teammates should be?

Uncanny X-Men No. 21 is probably going to lead into Jonathan Hickman’s two new stories Powers of X and House of X. It will be interesting to see exactly how long they will remain forgotten by the world, specially by the superhero community.
