Spider-Man: Far From Home may have made a subtle reference to the Fantastic Four.

Ever since Spider-Man: Homecoming hit cinemas, two years back, moviegoers have been hoping to find out who the new owners of Avengers Tower. Fans no doubt know the building, which was first introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron, played a key role in Homecoming’s third act.

Before Spider-Man: Far From Home was released, rumors popped up, claiming the new owner of the building would be Norman Osborn, and that he would turn it into Oscorp Tower. This claim seemed to be valid, as the Osborn family is said to come into play at some point in the future. However, this was not the case in the finished film. But Comicbook.com reported another small Easter egg for the tower, which appears toward the end of the movie

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Easter egg takes place towards the very end of the film where a confident, ebullient Spider–Man flexes his web swings and acrobatic prowess through the sky tops of New York to land at the very building that was once Avengers Tower and Stark Tower. There is a sign that reads “We can’t wait to show you what comes next,” but the sentence is broken up with “1… 2… 3” and a “?“. If you are not privy to math then a “4” should come afterwards. While it could be reaching, the only superhero team that lives in Manhattan in a tall skyscraper is the Fantastic Four.

To clarify, this is just a minor Easter egg and nothing more, but expect some references like this post–MCU Phase Three. It is not certain who the owners actually are. Nor is there actual confirmation that the building will become the MCU’s version of the Baxter Building. Kevin Feige even went on to say, “I didn’t see a sign there yet.” The Marvel Studios President, ever being the people person and business-first rep, remained tight–lipped on the subject:

"“I always think the speculation fuels it, whether that speculation is correct, as it sometimes is, or if that speculation is wrong as it often is.”"

Whatever the case, we should find out sooner rather than later who the owners will be. It took roughly nine films featuring references to Wakanda, the mineral Vibranium and other little detials before the debut of Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War. Considering the mistreatment of the Fantastic Four and its IP, it will take some time before Marvel Studios will move forward with a new version of Marvel’s First Family.
