5 major questions we have after Spider-Man: Far From Home
3. Has Peter Become The Next Iron Man?
Throughout the entirety of the film, Peter found himself confronted by the fact that he was Tony Stark’s chosen successor, but when he was gifted with the glasses known as E.D.I.T.H., his many errors soon made him question if he was even ready to do anything outside of friendly neighbourhood heroics.
His decision to hand the glasses (and in essence, Stark’s legacy) over to Mysterio instead wasn’t just influenced by those errors, as it really stemmed from the fact that he knew he couldn’t live up to his mentor’s legacy and, as far as he was concerned, he didn’t want to.
However, the fact of the matter is that Peter reached a point where he refused to accept his failings. He refused to accept that Mysterio could beat him and, more than anything, he refused to accept that he wasn’t worthy.
In doing so, he overcame Mysterio’s illusions and technology, protected “Nick Fury” and “Maria Hill”, regained E.D.I.T.H., saved the world from an incredibly dangerous illusionist and still made it back in time to kiss the girl he was falling for. Now that’s a series of events that would have been ambitious to everyone except Tony Stark… and Peter Parker, apparently.
If all of that, the Iron Spider suit or even E.D.I.T.H. herself still doesn’t convince you, then maybe this will. Thanks to the film’s mid-credits scene, the world now knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Maybe that was the writers’ crazy way of telling us that, yes, believe it or not, Peter is worthy of carrying on Tony’s legacy because now, just like his mentor, he’s in the public eye.
A friendly neighborhood Spider-Man could never have been the almighty Iron Man’s successor, but the Mysterio-slaying Spider-Man that saved the world? Now that’s a guy that just might pull it off.
Maybe the MCU has found its new face after all…
