John Constantine is getting a relaunched series within The Sandman Universe

After not having a solo series for nearly a year, John Constantine is coming back to comics, this time within Neil Gaiman’s Sandman Universe.
Announced by DC Comics, John Constantine will be getting his own series once again this Halloween starting with The Sandman Universe Presents Hellblazer No. 1, written by Simon Spurrier and drawn by Marcio Takara. This one-shot will then lead into the new series, John Constantine, Hellblazer, which will be released the following month and will also be written by Spurrier, but drawn by Aaron Campbell.
Since his incorporation into the DC Universe within the pages of Saga of the Swamp Thing, John Constantine has been a staple within the magical community. He was a founder of the Justice League Dark and has been a presence within the most recent volume, as well. He’s had several solo series, with his longest running being Hellblazer under the recently defunct Vertigo banner, and his most recent series, The Hellblazer, ending last July.
With that said, while Constantine has always been a welcome addition to the DC Universe, he’s never felt quite right within it. But having a title connected with The Sandman Universe simply feels more connected to what the character is.

The DC Universe has never had its shortage of magic-based villains or stories, Justice League Dark this past year has proven that to be true, but there’s something that’s been missing for Constantine over the past couple of years.
The character has been missing the down-to-Earth, grimy feel that the early appearances of the character held, so now, hopefully, being part of The Sandman Universe will potentially provide the character the feel that the early Jamie Delano run had or even Hellblazer: City of Demons by Si Spencer and Sean Murphy had. Either way, by being part of a new imprint, this provides John Constantine the room to be in much more mature stories the DC Universe can’t tell.

The Sandman Universe Presents Hellblazer No. 1 will be released on October 30th and John Constantine, Hellblazer No. 1 will be released on November 27th.
