A new Stormtrooper has been revealed for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
By Scott Brown
With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker only five months away, more is bound to be revealed about it. As for now, the newest reveal is a new Stormtrooper variant for the film, the Sith Trooper.
New variants for Stormtroopers are a tale as old as Star Wars itself, so it’s no surprise that the same is occurring for The Rise of Skywalker, as well. As revealed on Star Wars’ official website, the Sith Trooper will be appear in Episode IX, but not before fans are able to get their hands on a toy version of it, exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con.
From the looks of this new reveal, the Sith Trooper takes inspiration from both the First Order version of the Stormtrooper, but also seemingly from Snoke’s Praetorian Guard that was featured in The Last Jedi. While looking incredible though, the real draw for this variant comes from the name.

Anyone who knows Star Wars knows the Sith are force users on the Dark Side, who had seemingly became extinct after Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader were killed during The Return of the Jedi. But as revealed in the Aftermath series of novels, there Sith cultists around the galaxy searching for Sith artifacts, so it’s possible these troopers could possibly be aligned with the Sith cult, as well as The First Order.
However, the most probable cause for the Sith Trooper is Kylo Ren taking up the mantle of a Sith Lord, just like his grandfather that he worships, and promoting these troopers to some form of bodyguard. In essence, these new variants will more than likely be a combination of the regular Stormtrooper variant, as well as a new version of the Imperial/Praetorian Guard. It obviously remains to be seen how big of a role they will play in The Rise of Skywalker.
Several figures, including Hasbro Black Series versions and Funko versions, of the Sith Trooper will be available at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on December 20, 2019.
