A new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker prequel comic has been announced during San Diego Comic-Con, one that will focus on Kylo Ren and his Knights of Ren.

Following an announcement at the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel during the second day of San Diego Comic-Con, it looks like Kylo Ren is about to have his backstory explained a bit more. Charles Soule will be writing a new limited series titled The Rise of Kylo Ren that, as the name suggests, will detail his rise to become the man we see in the sequel trilogy. No artist has been announced yet. Soule expressed his excitement for the new series in a tweet:

From the teaser image that was released by Soule, it seems the Knights of Ren will feature heavily in the series, as well. Ever since the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released, fans have been clamoring for all the info they can get about the mysterious group. They only appeared briefly in Rey’s Force Vision in the aforementioned The Force Awakens and were nowhere to be seen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Here’s hoping that we learn more about the group that will hopefully be more prominent in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Charles Soule is no stranger to the Dark Side of Star Wars either and is a perfect choice to write this series. His run on Darth Vader with Giuseppe Camuncoli was remarkable, and it’s only natural that he would write about Vader’s grandson. Soule has also written in the timeframe that the story will more likely be set in as well with his run on Poe Dameron, which was set just before the events of The Force Awakens. Soule has also written two other Star Wars limited series, Obi-Wan & Anakin and Lando.

Next. A new Stormtrooper has been revealed for Episode IX. dark

Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren is set to be released in December 2019, right before the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
