A new Adam Strange-focused comic series has been announced from the previous Mister Miracle creative team.

Coming off the back of their multiple Eisner wins on Friday night, Tom King and Mitch Gerads have announced their next collaboration will focus on Adam Strange and take the title of older series, Strange Adventures. No real details, including a release date, have been released so far other than a couple of covers, one by Evan Shaner and the other by Mitch Gerads:

Adam Strange hasn’t really appeared in many comics recently, other than the odd side appearance or two in another character’s series. For example, Strange recently appeared in The Green Lantern with which he had to fight Hal Jordan in order to survive. That’s really been his most prominent appearance in years, so it’s an exciting premise that the character is about the be reinvented.

What one can assess from the duality of these covers, though, is the disparity between the two. Shaner’s cover details a much happier, idealized version of the science fiction world that Adam Strange inhabits. However, Gerads cover is darker, covered in graffiti, and just all around has a different feel to it. This indicates that the series will obviously have much darker undertones than the character has previously held, which is very similar to King and Gerads handling of Mister Miracle.

This won’t be King’s first foray into the DC Universe cosmos, though, as he previously worked on The Omega Men, which is one of the best series that DC has released in the past decade. He also teamed with Shaner during “The Darkseid War” storyline to tell a one-shot story about Hal Jordan gaining the powers of a god after Darkseid died, which again, was excellent.
As for the King/Gerads partnership, this will be the third maxi-series they have collaborated on, the previous two of which, The Sheriff of Babylon and Mister Miracle, are outstanding. They’ve also worked on Heroes in Crisis and Batman together over the past year.
