Will Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and, if so, should he be?

Comic book multiverses are full of amazement, as it gives us the chance to see multiple different versions of characters that exist in their respective continuity’s normal universe.

Take Marvel Comics for example. We all know how creative differences led to conflict between Magneto and Professor Xavier in the mainstream continuity, but there’s also a reality where the pair opened up the iconic school together. This resulted in a totally new X-Men roster.

The Marvel Comics prime universe is Earth 616, the Ultimate Universe is Earth 1610, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known as Earth-199999. Speaking of which, the next Doctor Strange project has been titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It looks like Dr. Stephen Strange will be exploring the outer reaches of the MCU’s multiverse.

We don’t much about the film so far, but one thing we do know is that it will also feature Elizabeth Olsen who plays the powerhouse Wanda Maximoff a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch. We’ve seen brief glimpses of her powers in the MCU, as she was one of the few people to really put fear in Thanos. In the comic books, however, her chaos magic changed the entire Marvel Universe, as she almost abolished the mutant gene with three words.

We may see Wanda and Doctor Strange jumping to other realities in the upcoming sequel – something that has spawned a rumor that the pair may visit a very familiar reality. Stephen Strange and Wanda may go to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man universe.

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 are among the most treasured comic book movies of all time, and they were part of one of the three successful franchises that ultimately led to the creation of the MCU. It’s been 12 years since we’ve seen that universe (Spider-Man 3) and revisiting it may be an incredibly cool idea – and not just for nostalgic purposes.

The last thing we saw of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson was the two of them slow-dancing together. This led everyone to believe that they were going to work things out. However, we don’t know what really happened after that, do we?

Returning to this universe could give fans a bit of closure on what happened to Peter Parker. Did he and Mary Jane finally get married? Did they have kids? Did something horrible happen that made him quit being Spider-Man (again)?

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

There are a million different things that could have happened since we last saw him and, if Strange and Wanda were to pay him a visit, it would also present him with the opportunity to be the person to help them both return home.

In the end, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will probably be an entertaining look into Marvel’s Multiverse, and we’re likely going to see a lot of things that could end up affecting the MCU’s future.

Doctor Strange’s ability to see 14,000,605 different outcomes to the Avengers’ battle with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War conveyed just how powerful he was – and that could be the reason we’re getting this movie.

The character could now find himself looking to help other universes on the cusp of destruction and, in doing so, help them defeat the Mad Titan. Perhaps Sam Raimi’s universe could be one of those realities where Strange tries to save the day.

Whatever the reason, it would be great to see Tobey Maguire don the Spider-Man costume in the MCU.
