Thor: Love & Thunder will be filmed in Sydney, Australia
Marvel’s Thor 4 a.k.a. Thor: Love and Thunder is confirmed to be filming in Sydney, Australia – the home of Chris Hemsworth.
Prior to the stellar announcements surrounding the next phase of films and TV shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we learned Taika Waititi will be writing and directing Marvel’s next Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. Well, now more details of the follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok have emerged as it has been revealed per ABC that it will be filmed in Sydney, Australia.
Chris Hemsworth, who has played the God of Thunder for over eight years, is returning for the sequel. Also reprising her role as Valkyrie will be Hemsworth’s Ragnarok and MIB: International co-star, Tessa Thompson, while franchise vet Natalie Portman will make a triumphant return as Jane Foster.
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed Foster is set to become the Mighty Thor. In the comics, Foster was stricken with cancer and became the new Thor once the original, Odinson, was deemed unworthy of the enchanted hammer, Mjolnir, and thus, she possessed Thor’s power.
Hemsworth was clearly pleased to hear the news of the film’s presence in Sydney, commenting:
"“Being able to stay home and put the kids to bed in their own home – as opposed to dragging them across the globe to various hotels – is, as a parent, hugely important… My wife’s certainly happy… A lot of the scripts I read now… location is at the top of the list.”"
Ragnarok was filmed in Queensland, making Love and Thunder the second Thor movie to be filmed in Australia. It will be produced at Sydney’s Fox Studios and will commence principal photography at some point in 2020.
Due to a reported cash injection from the (NSW) New South Wales and Federal government in order to back the project, this allowed Marvel Studios to be granted access to the location.

Marvel’s decision to shoot Love and Thunder in Sydney is undoubtedly a great thing for the Australian film industry, but it isn’t the only MCU offering set to make its presence felt upon the location.
That’s right, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton and penned by David Callaham, set to also be filmed in Sydney.
