Following the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Ava DuVernay praised the work of Batman: Rebirth co-writer, Tom King, for New Gods movie.

After a packed-out slate of films and shows for Phase Four of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, it is quite fair to say that Marvel dominated Comic-Con this year at San Diego. On the DC side of things, the only thing noteworthy was the bunch of news surrounding Greg Berlanti’s Arrowverse.

However, there were some rumblings about DC Films and one of them involved the New Gods movie co-written and directed by Ava DuVernay.

Batman: Rebirth writer, Tom King, who was announced back in May of this year to be co-writing with DuVernay on New Gods, revealed that after Comic-Con, he will begin writing the script for the film. His co-writer, DuVernay, shared an image of the two sometime over the weekend. This came, as courtesy from Comicbook.com.

DuVernay has kept things under wraps ever since she was hired by Warner Bros. to spearhead the project – that centers on a race of god-like beings on twin planets operating in existence outside space-time – until now. Most recently, she revealed that both Darkseid and the Female Furies will be featured in the film.

Bringing Darkseid in New Gods makes sense as the overlord and the New Gods themselves have already been referenced in previous DC Films. Nephew of Steppenwolf, the lord of the hellish planet known as Apokolips was revealed in Justice League to have sent his ruthless uncle to retrieve the Mother Boxes and reshape the world ready for his reckoning.

It is not clear how this film may fit as part of DCEU continuity, whether it is an origin story or about the tale of the Old Gods and New Gods, with the latter’s rise to power.

During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, King said that the collaboration process is a “f****** joy,” and that DuVernay is “amazing” and invited him to discuss bringing on board teams.
