New Gods film: Ava DuVernay confirms Big Barda & Darkseid will appear

More information has been revealed about DC’s upcoming New Gods film and it comes directly from the film’s director, Ava DuVernay.

The New Gods film is well is well under its way into pre-production, so more and more information is slowly coming out about the film. Now, after rumors going back to January of this year, Ava DuVernay has confirmed that Big Barda will be featured in the film, as will the Furies.

Duvernay confirmed this during a Twitter Q&A. There have been no confirmations on other characters as of yet, but in addition to Barda and the Furies, Mister Miracle and Granny Goodness are rumored to appear.

Coming off the back of the critically-lauded Mister Miracle series by Tom King and Mitch Gerads, it’s no surprise that Barda and the Furies will be present in the New Gods film. Arguably, they’re some of the most prominent New Gods (other than Darkseid) at this point in time, thanks to the aforementioned series, as well as a Female Furies series by Cecil Castellucci and Adriana Melo.

Ava also revealed that Darkseid will also appear in the film, but this felt inevitable from the beginning. He’s the main villain of the New Gods series and anything that features the New Gods that doesn’t feature Darkseid in some way would feel a bit incomplete.

A couple of months ago, King was even announced as a writer on the script with DuVernay, which brings forth the possibility that the film will be drawing, at least in part from King and Gerads’ series.

So now with Barda, the Furies, and Darkseid being confirmed, it’s possible that the rumors may be completely true. No official story details have been revealed at this point in time, but that’s to be expected, given where the film seems to be in pre-production.

There’s obviously so much about this film that is still a mystery, but with no release date announced yet and filming yet to start, it will be a while before more official details will be revealed.
