Agents of SHIELD Henry Simmons and Natalia Cordova-Buckley tease the possibility of surprise returns in Season 7 as the show comes full circle in its final season.
After seven years, the Agents of SHIELD will call it a day, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy and pop culture footprint what won’t soon be forgotten. Before the final curtain falls on ABC’s long-running series, though, fans can look forward to one last 13-episode season.
Like with most final seasons, Season 7 of Agents of SHIELD promises to pay homage to the show’s history with a story arc that promises to honor the prior seasons in an attempt to bring the story full circle.
"“Everything kind of comes full circle,” star Natalia Cordova-Buckley promises of the forthcoming final season of the show. “A lot that we’ve seen in past seasons, what we expected to happen and not, kind of comes full circle. It’s very hard to explain [without giving too much away, but] a lot from the past of SHIELD comes into play.”"
In taking a full circle approach, the door will be opened for the show to play some of its greatest hits in incorporating nods to past seasons. While details are scarce, fans can look forward to the possible returns of characters and elements explored in past seasons of the franchise.
"“There could be people or elements that you’ve seen [come back into play in Season 7]. I also can say that you’ll meet Mack’s parents [at some point before the series finale],,” teased Cordova-Buckley’s co-star Henry Simmons."

Although Season 7 will reintroduce some familiar elements and may feature the occasional surprise return, ABC is prepared to enter uncharted territory with a season unlike any we’ve seen before; a season which promises to bring with plenty of unexpected twists and plenty of traveling.
"“It’s very different – seven from six,” Cordova-Buckley promised in looking ahead to the final season. “There’s a lot of traveling in [Season] 7. I’m not going to say what type of traveling, but we do a lot of traveling.”Echoed Simmons, “There’s a lot of unexpected occurrences that happen in Season 7.”"
