7. Game Publisher should be…

The first thing to consider, besides the development of the next Hulk game, is which video game company should publish Marvel’s Strongest One There Is and it’s a rather difficult choice to make rather than just deciding which party should develop the game. Here, we decided not to start with the developer, but go with the publisher, as this poses more questions.

While Insomniac Games maybe the most obvious choice to develop a Hulk game for current and next-gen consoles, here comes the problem — which company should be the one to publish the game? Radical Entertainment, the developer behind The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction back in 2005 suffered a reduction in staff.

The last known contribution they made in the gaming market was the 2014 online first-person shooter game Destiny. Radical is a subsidiary of Vivendi Games, which served as TIHUD’s publisher. Radical has since been folded into the massive game corporation now known as Activision Blizzard.

While Sony is dominating the market in terms of sales for games they publish, Activision has a history with Marvel in terms of gaming properties, such as the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises. Sony also has a solid relationship with Activision in terms of the exclusivity deals they have been running, allowing PlayStation users access to exclusive content (i.e. armor, skins, vehicles, weaponry etc.).

Assuming Insomniac Games or any other company retains the game license and hereto the rights from Marvel to do a Hulk game, it would make sense for Activision and Sony to publish the game. That way the project can remain attractive for PlayStation and Xbox users and for PC. The development of the game should be left for another company to have a try, not Activision this time.
