John David Washington is rumored to be teaming with Robert Pattinson again, this time in Matt Reeves Batman in an undisclosed role.

With the DCEU sitting out SDCC 2019, there hasn’t been a ton of news about the cinematic universe. The bulk of the news from Matt Reeves’ The Batman happened months before SDCC 2019. Robert Pattinson was named Bruce Wayne in a film that’s said to feature Batman’s rogues gallery.

However, we may have a new development. According to GWW, Matt Reeves allegedly has his sights set on John David Washington for a role in The Batman.

Washington is a former college football standout turned actor, and the son of the legendary Denzel Washington. His claim to fame was the HBO series Ballers, in which he plays the arrogant playboy wide receiver, Ricky.

He would go on to play in a number of films, earning a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman. If the rumors are true, it’ll reunite him with Robert Pattinson.

Both Washington and Pattinson have roles in Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated tim- traveling flick, Tenet. While GWW doesn’t disclose which Batman character Washington is being eyed to play, it doesn’t stop us from speculating.

Why Harvey Dent/Two Face makes sense

With The Batman expected to feature a rogue gallery of villains, one name comes to mind — Two Face. For a while, the idea of Harvey Dent being part of The Batman floated around the web. Fans of the Caped Crusader understand the importance of Harvey Dent. He’s an ally of Jim Gordon and Batman before becoming one the Dark Knight’s greatest enemies.

The role makes sense for Washington, if in fact, Harvey Dent plays a part in the film. With Washington and the importance of Harvey Dent to Batman, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this isn’t a one and done deal.

More from DCEU

Imagine watching Dent’s transition from good guy to big bad  happen over the course of a trilogy. We’ve seen Harvey Dent/Two Face play a role in Batman films before, but never with a true origin story.

Dent’s transformation doesn’t happen without a compelling arc. In fact, The Long Halloween was the origin story for Dent’s transformation into Two Face.

Washington wouldn’t be the first black actor to take on the role. In Tim Burton’s 1989 film, Billy Dee Williams played the district attorney, but he never played Two-Face.

Tommy Lee Jones went on to play the role as full-fledged Two Face in Batman Forever and, more recently, Aaron Eckhart played Harvey Dent in Nolan’s The Dark Knight.

Next. Who could play the villains in The Batman?. dark

Harvey Dent’s importance and complexity makes sense, but it’s not the only role that does. With Matt Reeves alleged trilogy, we’ll get a chance to see Dent go from hero to villain.
