Matt Reeves’ The Batman short list includes Giancarlo Esposito and Jamie Foxx
Matt Reeves has reportedly added Giancarlo Esposito and Jamie Foxx to the shortlist for a role in The Batman.
According to GWW, the short list for Matt Reeves’ The Batman now includes none other than Giancarlo Esposito and Jamie Foxx. No doubt people are wondering who these stars are being considered for on thifor the upcoming Batman film. And some are probably already assuming Lucius Fox. Believe it or not, rumors are saying these two are on the short list for the Riddler.
Giancarlo Esposito sounds like a great runner-up. Interestingly, this is not his first dip into the waters of DC. He previously voiced Ra’s al-Ghul in Son of Batman and Black Spider in Batman: Assault on Arkham.
Most people may know him best from Breaking Bad as the ruthless, Machiavellian Gustavo “Gus” Fring. His character, Fring, has this legitimate demeanor he likes to uphold. This does sit well with Riddler, unlike a wild card like the Joker, for example. What if Giancarlo Esposito lands that role in the MCU though? It’s unlikely he can be in both the MCU and DCEU. Plus, he is almost twice the age of Robert Pattinson. Do they want the Riddler to be that old?

Jamie Foxx has credentials, as well. Most of comic book fans probably remember him as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Ironically, many critical fans accused this role of being like Jim Carrey’s Riddler in Batman Forever. In this role, we see him as a villain and the intelligent… nerd to say the least. Another great role of his is in Baby Driver, in which he plays a complete sociopath. Channeling something like this could help, given the Riddler is more than just some Frank Gorshin’s wacko with corny riddles. Jamie Foxx is also a decade younger than Giancarlo Esposito, but he still looks young and great for his age.

Only time will tell who will become the Riddler and if these really are the actors on the short list. Who knows if either actor has met with Matt Reeves. Either way, we the fans will win given actors like these two.
