Black Lightning: 6 things we need to see from season 3
By Mark Lynch
With Black Lightning’s third season nearly upon us, how can the show continue to be a hit?
Though it won’t hold that title for much longer, Black Lightning is The CW’s latest DC Comics TV show.
It may look like just another comic book show, but it’s given viewers something different. Focusing on issues that involve the black community, it’s influenced by black culture and highlights many aspects that aren’t often seen on television.
While this subject matter is undoubtedly an important topic, the show handles the mix between it and the superhero elements rather well, without ever sacrificing the message.
Recently, it was announced that the show’s third season will premiere on October 7th, 2019 at 9pm. However, even though Black Lightning survived the sophomore slump, the show isn’t out of the water just yet.
One of the things that can be the kiss of death for a TV show is how it progresses. Sometimes projects end up getting stale for multiple reasons. Is the content still good? Are the characters evolving? Is the antagonist still challenging the heroes of the story? Any one of these things can make or break a show.
Season 2 may not have been quite as good as season 1, but it was still enjoyable. Season 2 ended with one heck of a cliffhanger with metas in Freeland being targeted and Agent Percy Odell revealing that he knows Black Lighting’s secret identity. While these may be the A story going in, there are still other aspects of the story that we need to see in order for season 3 to be a success.
For example, there’s the fact that Black Lightning will appear in the CW crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths. Something like this may just bring in more viewers. But what else could help make this season even better?
