6. Black Widow

Release Date: May 1, 2020

Avengers: Endgame was the farewell for Black Widow in that timeline, but she’ll be back in the MCU’s first prequel. Before Captain Marvel, fans expected Black Widow to have a feature film. A decade after appearing in Iron Man 2 as Natasha Romanoff on May 1, 2020 we’ll finally see Scarlett Johansson in a solo film.

Director Cate Shortland’s film takes us deep inside the Black Widow program. In fact, according to Collider, Rachel Weisz revealed that her character went through the program several times. There isn’t any word on exactly what role her character plays in the film.

One thing we know for sure is, Natasha isn’t the only hero. Stranger Things and Hellboy actor, David Harbour is playing Marvel hero Red Guardian.  Also known as Alexei Shostakov, the former husband of Natasha who faked his death before returning as the Russian hero.

The duo will likely take on the film’s villain Taskmaster, whose actor hasn’t been revealed.  Also joining the cast is Florence Pugh, who plays an adversary and trainee in the assassin program, Yelena Belova. With the demise of Black Widow in Endgame, it’s possible that she could become the heir apparent to the Black Widow mantle.

After all, this could end up being the final time we see Johansson as Black Widow. With the casting news and expectations of taking the MCU into a new direction; one can only expect her to go out with a bang.
