2019 Teen Choice Awards: MCU and Riverdale big winners

The MCU and Riverdale were big winners during the 2019 Teen Choice Awards.

The 2019 Teen Choice Awards were broadcast Sunday night on Fox, and it’s safe to say that fans of Riverdale and the MCU walked away very satisfied.

The Wrap had a full breakdown of the results if viewers missed the show, but here’s how your favorite comic book-inspired films and TV shows did.

Avengers: Endgame beat out stablemates Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Homecoming for Choice Action Movie.

MCU actors nearly swept Choice Action Movie Actor, with only John Cena not part of the cadre that included winner Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson and Paul Rudd.

Scarlett Johansson claimed Choice Action Movie Actress over Brie Larson, Evangeline Lilly and Zoe Saldana. Tessa Thompson was also nominated, but for her role in Men in Black: International (which is based on a Marvel Comics series).

Aquaman, Dark Phoenix and Shazam! all earned nominations for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Movie but lost out to Disney’s Aladdin.

Similarly, Zachary Levi (Shazam!), James McAvoy (Dark Phoenix) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) were all nominated for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor, while Amber Heard (Aquaman) and Sophie Turner (Dark Phoenix) were nominated for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress – but they were pipped to the post by Aladdin‘s Will Smith and Naomi Scott respectively.

The bad guys rose to the occasion in Choice Movie Villain, with Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame) taking the No. 1 evildoer crown over Jude Law (Captain Marvel) and Mark Strong (Shazam!).

Spider-Man: Far From Home claimed Choice Summer Movie, with Tom Holland (Far From Home) winning Choice Summer Movie Actor over Riverdale’s KJ Apa (The Last Summer). Far From Home co-star Zendaya won Choice Summer Movie Actress.

Fans of The CW’s Riverdale made sure it beat out Runaways for Choice Drama TV Show, with Cole Sprouse defeating The CW drama’s own leading man KJ Apa for Choice Drama TV Actor and Lili Reinhart also topping castmate Camila Mendes.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was nominated for Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show, while CAoS star Ross Lynch and Aubrey Joseph (Cloak and Dagger) earned nominations in Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor – but they lost out to Supernatural‘s Jared Padalecki.

Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress featured nominations for Olivia Holt (Cloak and Dagger), Ellen Page (The Umbrella Academy) and Kieran Shipka (CAoS), but that award ultimately went to Shadowhunters’ Katherine McNamara (who is currently a series regular on Arrow)

Fox’s Gotham and The CW’s Arrowverse quartet of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl all earned nominations in Choice Action TV Show, but it was CBS’ MacGyver that took home the award.

Arrow’s Stephen Amell won Choice Action TV Actor over Grant Gustin (The Flash), Ben McKenzie (Gotham), Brandon Routh (Legends of Tomorrow) and Brenton Thwaites (Titans).

Melissa Benoist (Supergirl), Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow), Danielle Panabaker and Candice Patten (both The Flash) were nominated for Choice Action TV Actress, but they all lost out to L.A.’s Finest‘s Gabrielle Union.

Cameron Monaghan of Gotham won Choice TV Villain, defeating Sarah Carter (The Flash), Jon Cryer (Supergirl), and Sea Shimooka (Arrow).

Riverdale’s Reinhart and Sprouse won Choice Ship over castmates Madelaine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan.

Finally, rapper Post Malone, who did most of the music for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was nominated for four awards as well.
